Services

The doctors and staff of Sheabel Animal Medical Center believe that every pet needs and deserves top quality medical services coupled with compassionate care.  We spend many hours every year expanding our knowledge through continuing education and special seminars.  Our commitment to your Pet's health is foremost in our minds and actions.  We realize that your pets, like ours, are family.
Wellness

We have all heard the old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”  Nowhere is this more true than in the prevention of disease through vaccinations.  Most of the diseases the we vaccinate against are both highly contagious and potentially fatal.  Therefore, all pets, regardless of their environment, need their vaccinations.  For the safety and protection of all the pets we see, we require the following vaccinations for any pet prior to checking in for hospitalization, a stay at our pet hotel, or for grooming services in our bathing and styling salon.

Canine:

DHPP (Distempter / Parvo / Hepatitis / Parainfluinza)
Leptospirosis
Rabies
Fecal Parasite Test (Worm Check)
Bordetella

Feline:

FVRCCP (Viral Rhinotracheitis / Calicivirus / Chlamydia / Panleukopenia)
Rabies
FELV (Feline Leukemia)
Fecal Parasite Test (Worm Check)

At the doctor's discrection, a Physical Exam may be required before any of these vaccinations are administered.  This is to ensure the wellness of your pet.  The doctor may listen to your Pet's heart and lungs, as well as check their teeth, ears, eyes, nose and throat.
Spaying and Neutering

If you choose not to breed your pet, spaying or neutering is highly recommended.  Spaying and neutering not only prevents unwanted puppies and kittens, it also prevents diseases associated with the reproductive organs.  We suggest spaying or neutering your pet prior to sexual maturity, which is approximately four to six months of age.
Out-Patient Care

Office visits may be made by appointment to have your pet seen by any of our Lexington, KY veterinarians.  An office visit may include a wellness examination, or an involved medical case. For your convenience, early morning drop-offs are welcome, with an evening pick up.  We do ask for your cooperation in scheduling all appointments prior to arrival at our hospital, although if your Pet is experiencing a medical emergency during our normal business hours you should come in immediately with your Pet.  For after hours emergency care, Sheabel recommends the AA Small Animal Emergency Services hospital, which can be reached by calling 859-276-2505.
In-Patient Care

If your pet is experiencing acute or chronic illness that may require hospitalization, our highly dedicated medical team combined with our state-of-the-art veterinary hospital is equipped to provide the highest quality of care for your Pet.

Surgery is performed in our facility Monday through Friday. Each patient’s needs are evaluated prior to surgery, and appropriate medical care is given to ensure a safe and uneventful surgical procedure.
Dental Cleaning

Another surgical option for your pet is dental cleaning.  In the veterinary community, we are more aware than ever of the need for good dental care for pets.  Poor dental hygiene can cause diseases that can effect internal organs.
Senior Wellness Program

Any pet over seven years old is considered "senior".  Older pets are at risk of developing diseases that younger pets are not.  We recommend that senior pets come in for a wellnes exam every 6 months.  Diagnosis and treatment for diseases early can often make the difference between a healthy pet for years to come, and a pet that becomes ill or becomes deceased.
Referrals

There are always problems that arise that need extra special attention.  We at Sheabel Animal Medical Center feel a responsibility to our patients to provide them with the best possible medical care, and sometimes that means referral of a patient to a board certified specialist.  We have the capability to refer your pet to a number of specialists to deal with your pet’s special case.
